Making of 'The Mascot'

OK so I've been asked to explain a little on how I designed my mascot.

It all started with a rough sketch in Photoshop really. After getting the rough idea down I then started breaking the concept in to shapes by using the pen tool. I usually stick to the bigger dominating shapes that give the design it's character. Once the the major shapes have been created on individual layers (So that I can put them in groups. ie. Mask, Lens 1, Lens 2 etc), I then go to work on the finer details. I start of with gradients to work out the lighting. Then I start applying textures with brushes and erasing what isn't needed. Carrying on until you can sit back and assume it looks finished.

That's a rough description as to how I went about doing this design basically.
